Joanna Kempen

Joanna began painting around thirty years ago following art classes in her native Holland. On moving to the Beara Peninsula in 1994, her commitment to painting increased dramatically. For several years she attended art classes in Allihies given by the inspiring artist and teacher Robin Forrester.

Joanna works in oils, pastels and mixed media recently finding great depth of pigment yet subtlety of colour using our range of hand rolled air dried pastels by Wallace Seymour.

While based on observation of her surroundings, Joannas’ work moves towards a semi-abstract interpretation which aims to celebrate and capture the colour and drama of her spectacular surroundings. She describes her work as a journey into the unknown and sees it as a never ending process of learning and above all, a discovery of life itself
